About Witch's Grave

Skiatook, Oklahoma

Witch's Grave in Skiatook, Oklahoma:

Skiatook is located in Osage and Tulsa Counties in northeastern Oklahoma. Skiatook is a smaller community of about 5,000 residents. It is a suburb of Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Hillside Cemetery was laid out by Reverend John Murdock, a traveling missionary. He was sent to the area on behalf of a group of Quakers known as the Friends Association of Pennsylvania. His purpose was to evangelize to the Cherokee Nation. He was instrumental in building the Hillside Mission School as well as a church and the Hillside Cemetery. The cemetery was located across the road from the Hillside Mission School. Jesseen N. Lloyd was the first burial here. She was the baby daughter of C. W. and A. I. Lloyd, born in 1882.

Hillside Cemetery is located 4 miles north of Skiatook off Highway 11. Take 185th Street east. The Hillside Cemetery is on 186th Street North.

Other directions to find the Hillside Cemetery where the Witch's Grave is located: take Highway 20 to Peoria and turn North. Then, take Peoria down to 126 and go back west to Hillside Cemetery. These directions were taken off of some of the video footage. It's possible that "126" is actually "186" Street or vice versa.

There are a number of Witch's Graves in the United States besides just this one in Skiatook, Oklahoma. For example, in Aurora, Nebraska, there is a Witch's Grave as well. These two Witch's Graves have some things in common, but the Witch's Grave in Nebraska, because it was bound on all four corners by posts and broken chains, this factored into the story there as well (the witch had broken the chains, of course).

Other tales about witches and graves can be found in places as far afield as New England, which makes sense because in New England, witch burnings were more commonplace. For example, Witch's Grave in Annapolis, Maryland is blamed for paranormal activity in the area. Even Mannington, West Virginia has a Witch's Grave.

Ghosts and the Paranormal at Witch's Grave in Skiatook, Oklahoma:

Locals report strange goings-on at Hillside Cemetery. The odd events are blamed on the spirit of one woman, who has been dubbed a witch. This is similar to Galena, Kansas where the Witch's Grave is located in Oak Hill Cemetery and all paranormal activity there is blamed on the purported witch.
