The White House Apartments in Omaha, Nebraska
The History:
This apartment building is actually a 3 story brick house.
These apartments used to utilzed as a hospital.
The Haunting:
People have reported seeing a lady in a long white gown walking the hallways.
Observations:
The White House Apartments are located next door to a funeral home and the Sons of Italy Order. The fact that it used to be a hospital is significant as well.
We noted that it seemed like there were a number of younger people living at the apartments who were coming and going while we were doing our preliminary research on the location. Young people tend to have a more open mind toward the possibility of paranormal activity.

I have a production company that does horror films. I have hired a photographer to take some promotional pictures for me. Is it a possibility to come down there and take some shots outside of the apartment?

Live somewhat near apartments. Have taken nighttime photos of the morgue entrance and all around the back of the building. Keep getting little white spots in the pictures...

My great grandma moved into little Italy in omaha, which is right by the White House Apartments. There is an erie feeling when you pass the place. When your standing in the lobby there IS a lady in a white gown standing there, she has a welcoming smile. But the thing is when me and my family walked inside, I was the one saying hi to a ghost. The lady wasnt actually there. My family looked at me like i was crazy. I was twelve when i saw her. I want to visit again. The lady who is seen or heard, used to own the house, it was a victorian house. It was a hospital way before the lady owned the house. But once she passed away they turned into apartments, because of the immagrants (italians moving from Italy) Kids laughter is also heard, from when it was owned by the lady in white. I've always wondered if what I saw was real. If you have seen the lady or heard her speak to you. Leave a comment thank you

I would like to know if you can go in. Are you aloud to just walk on in, or is it like Mystery Manor where you have to pay, and there are actors. Please e-mail me. :)

There used to be lots of historic and interesting houses in this area. It's to bad the corporate cock suckers have to tear down all these interesting looking places instead of restoring them and putting up cooking cuttin condos and other rich ass-hole bull shit. If they want to do this, why don't they do it on park Ave? There's tons of abandoned apartments up there. As far as the ghosts go there's just some things in this world noone can explain. The only way you'le find out for sure is when you die yourself and find out whats on the other side. For some, I'm sure it will be pleasant, and for some, I'm sure it will be torment. It just depends on how big of an asshole you were in this life.

I have lived in this apartment building for about two years, and while I neither confirm, nor deny, these paranormal allegations; I am only interested on a historical front. Supposedly the home was owned by the mob before it became a hospital, and the Lady in White is related to that piece of history, as opposed to the hospital information. As far as walking in, you would have to be sneaky and wait for someone else to unlock the main door and come in with them. It is mostly artists and vagrants living there and we all think the ghost thing is funny, I doubt anyone would try and stop you from some quiet interest. If anyone has historical information on the building I would be interested though.

Hello to Everyone,
This is my first post, so I will try to make it a good one,
I have lived in this neighborhood a good deal of my life, I was born right up the street at 10th and Martha St., (St. Joseph Memorial Hospital) and attended various grade schools in the area (Lincoln School on 11th St (St. Joseph Catholic School on 16th St.) I am somewhat a product of "Little Italy" although I am not myself Italian, I have been closely involved with the White House for the past 20 years; I have at times served as its Building Engineer, and various other jobs, with my health slowly leaving me, and I think it%u2019s a good time, and this is a good website to tell what I know about this building.
1240 S. 10th St. The Main House has had two (2) additions put on sometime after the turn of the century, 1910-1920 is my guess , the %u201CSons of Italy%u201D building just North of the building was back in the day, the White House%u2019s Carriage/Stable House, this was a very unique piece of property at one time, but characteristic of the homes that surrounded it at the time, the %u201COriginal%u201D home was built for an Episcopal Bishop that ran what now has become the %u201CBrownell-Talbot School%u201D, the school then was located at 1515 S. 10th St. the hall called %u201COld Main or Stuntz Hall %u201D (Now a vacant lot where students play volleyball and things) between Worthington and Pine streets East off 10th street is one of a few locations this well known school called home for many years.
%u201CGeorge Worthington%u201D Became a Bishop in 1885 and to the best of my knowledge, the original home was built in 1886, in remained in George Worthington%u2019s hands for a number of years, until it was acquired by the church and was turned into a Presbyterian Theological Seminary/Surgical Hospital called %u201CPresbyterian Hospital%u201D, this was around the turn of the century, which is when the 2 additions were added on, along with what I am proud to say is the oldest working passenger elevator in the state of Nebraska!! (and Yes, its Safe), its single purpose is clear, to move Gurneys, from floor to floor, I have much information about this old %u201COtis Elevator%u201D if anyone would like more info, please contact me.
After a few short years of being a Seminary/Surgical Hospital, (Less than 20 years I think.) it became The %u201CLutheran Old People%u2019s Home%u201D after about 30 years of being a retirement home, it was in 1943 turned over to the Founders of Grace Bible Institute, this school opened in the fall of 1943 with a grand total of 23 students and six professors. No tuition was charged; instead, students performed "30-minute jobs" every day. That changed in 1948 when the Accrediting Association required member schools to charge money, in less than a year after the college opened, it was able to purchase Stuntz Hall, 1515 S. 10th St. Then it was sold sometime in the mid 50%u2019s to a man named %u201CLaPuzza%u201D whether there were are any ties to the %u201CMob%u201D I honestly don%u2019t know, and wouldn%u2019t say even if I did, So please don%u2019t ask. It was remodeled inside during the mid 50%u2019s into apartments, and has changed hands several times, including being donated back to %u201CGrace College%u201D and now is currently owned privately, and has remained pretty much as You see today, and don%u2019t let the outside fool You, the inside is much nicer than the outside, and there are plans to paint and restore the outside in the coming year.
That%u2019s the history as I know it, Now here is my tale, I am a %u201CStationary Engineer%u201D I hold the Omaha License, I also hold an Associates Degree in %u201CH.V.A.C.%u201D and I hold other related licenses and certificates, Building Mechanical Maintenance is my trade, it%u2019s funny, I currently work for %u201CMetro Community College%u201D as an %u201CArea Wide Engineer%u201D, and until I had seen this website, I had no idea that Building #16 at the %u201CFort%u201D was a %u201Chaunted place%u201D I always thought it was Building #17, or Building #14, and I have even heard that our new ICA building is haunted!, anyway %u201CWe Engineers%u201D go places inside a building most don%u2019t, and don%u2019t want to ever go to, Crawl spaces, Attics ,Tunnels, spaces in walls You don%u2019t think exist, We go there, for example%u2026
While tracing down a soil pipe at the White House, and trying to figure how We were going to fix it, I came across a area that didn%u2019t make sense to me in the basement, and after close measurements, I found an old canning room that had been walled off, Yes, I crawled thru a small opening, I got into the canning room, I retrieved Tons of Old Glass Wear, It was a 8 foot by 6 foot canning room, they had simply bricked off the entrance and filled it in and left everything right where it was, Why? I don%u2019t know, but I used to find this kind of thing in this neighborhood all the time, and the White House has a number of interesting places inside of it, including the remainders of the %u201CHospital Morgue%u201D and there are some oddities outside as well
As for strange experiences, I have been in places no human being has been in for decades, maybe even over a hundred years at the %u201CWhite House%u201D, and I have never seen anything, or heard anything remotely unusual, My father passed away while living at the building almost 15 years ago, I would think if anyone would have strange experiences it would be me, But%u2026I am not saying I don%u2019t believe, I just have not personally experienced anything, and I have heard quite a few interesting stories from a number of tenants about strange things, I have never met the%u201D Lady in White%u201D she hasn%u2019t introduced herself to me, maybe now that I am sick, She will show herself , Anyway, if I can help anyone, and it%u2019s in my power, feel free to contact me, I will do what I can.
Thank-You
K.C.
