About Centennial High SchoolHistory:
Fort Collins is the Larimer County Seat. It is located along the Cache La Poudre River along the Front Range. It has a population of about 150,000 residents.
Fort Collins was established in 1864 as a military outpost following a flood which destroyed Camp Collins, which was situated in nearby LaPorte in 1862. The camp in Laporte was put in place to protect mail carriers and travelers along the Overland Stage Trail from Indian uprisings. The flood, which occurred in June of 1864, destroyed the camp and an area further down the Cache La Poudre River, was suggested and later became Fort Collins. The original location of the fort was adjacent to the what is now known as the “Old Town” portion of the city.
The first school in Fort Collins was established in 1866.
Today, the Poudre School District is the second largest employer in Fort Collins under the Colorado State University. Centennial High School is one of four high schools that belong to the Poudre School District.
Apparitions of a girl have been reported at the school
